ICM-U024100 - Lost Communication With Headlamp Control Module "A". General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Infotainment Control Module (ICM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module that sets the code no longer receives information from the headlamp control module (HCM) over the CAN bus. The infotainment control module (ICM) is the one that sets the code. The code is generic and does not say what type of fault it is. Steering-angle-dependent vertical headlamp adjustment is affected when communication stops.
Possible causes
- The cable between the control modules has an open circuit
- The cable is short-circuited to ground
- The cable is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read out fault codes from the CEM (central electronic module). If it has codes for CAN communication, troubleshoot them first, since the CEM monitors the voltage on the CAN lines
- 2Check that the connectors to the headlamp control module (HCM) and to the infotainment control module are seated and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cable is not short-circuited to ground or supply voltage, and twist and move the cable while measuring
- 4If a control module has recently been replaced without new software being downloaded, this may be the cause. Have a workshop check this
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check whether a control module on the CAN network is sending incorrect messages and disturbing communication
Symptoms you may notice2
- Steering-angle-dependent vertical headlamp adjustment is incorrect
- Steering-angle-dependent vertical headlamp adjustment does not work
