ICM-U030000 - Internal Control Module Software Incompatibility. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Infotainment Control Module (ICM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named internal software, it applies to the control module's configuration ID on the CAN network. The infotainment control module (ICM) compares its own ID with the signal configuration that the central electronic module (CEM) sends out. If they differ, the code is stored. The control module then switches off its CAN communication.
Possible causes
- Incorrect configuration ID, for example a used control module from another car with different software or hardware
- Break in the CAN wiring to the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Has the control module recently been replaced with a used one? Have a workshop check that it is intended for this car and that the right software is loaded
- 2Check that the connectors in the CAN cables between the infotainment control module and the central electronic module are seated and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN cables have no open circuit, and twist and move the cables while measuring
- 4Do not replace the central electronic module for a CAN fault unless troubleshooting has shown that it is faulty
- 5Clear the code and switch the ignition on for a while to check that it is not stored again
Symptoms you may notice2
- Infotainment functions do not work
- On S80 (07-), V70 (08-) and XC70 (08-) built before late August 2008: the audio unit, the audio unit display or the radio does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The control module switches off its CAN communication (bus-off)
- The control module still responds to the diagnostic tool while the code is stored
