Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The IEM control unit compares the readings from the two temperature sensors in the electric rear axle (ERAD). If the difference between them becomes too large, the code is set. Although the code is named invalid signal, it therefore concerns the comparison between the two sensors. Electric propulsion is then not possible and the function of the rear axle is reduced.
Possible causes
- Loose contacts, contact resistance or oxidation at the joints between ERAD and the voltage converter (ISC)
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Damaged wiring between the ERAD and the ISC
- Damaged temperature sensor in the ERAD
- Internal fault in the voltage converter (ISC)
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the two temperature readings from the electric rear axle in live data and see how large the difference is
- 2Have a workshop check the connectors and wires to the temperature sensors in the electric rear axle. High voltage systems may only be handled by qualified personnel
- 3Do not carry out any work on the high voltage wiring or connectors yourself
- 4After the repair, check that the code is not stored again and that electric propulsion works as normal
Symptoms you may notice4
- Warning symbol with a text message in the display
- Drive mode PURE disengages automatically or is unavailable
- Drive mode AWD disengages automatically or is unavailable
- Drive mode HYBRID: the combustion engine runs all the time or too often
What the fault can affect2
- Electric propulsion is not possible
- The function of the rear axle is reduced
