IEM-B201019 - Electric Machine. General Electrical Failures. Circuit current above threshold
System
Unknown System / Manufacturer Specific
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The code points to too much current feeding the electric rear axle (ERAD). The IEM control unit keeps watch on the voltage and current feed and sets the code once the test has started while driving in gear D or R. Electric propulsion is then not possible, and the combustion engine cannot charge the high voltage battery.
Possible causes
- Loose contacts, contact resistance or oxidation at the connections between the ERAD and the voltage converter (ISC)
- High voltage cable short-circuited to ground
- Damaged wiring between the ERAD and the ISC
- Internal fault in the electric rear axle (ERAD)
- Internal fault in the voltage converter (ISC)
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the connections and wiring between the electric rear axle and the voltage converter (ISC). High voltage systems may only be handled by qualified personnel
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the current to the electric rear axle in live data while the car is driven in gear D or R
- 3Do not work on the high voltage cabling yourself
- 4After the repair, check that the code is not stored again while driving in gear D or R
Symptoms you may notice4
- Warning window with a warning symbol and text message
- Drive mode PURE disengages automatically or is unavailable
- Drive mode AWD disengages automatically or is unavailable
- Drive mode HYBRID: the combustion engine is running all the time or too often
What the fault can affect2
- Electric propulsion is not possible
- The combustion engine cannot charge the high voltage battery
