IEM-B20101E - Electric Machine. General Electrical Failures. Circuit resistance out of range
System
Unknown System / Manufacturer Specific
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named circuit resistance out of range, it concerns the inductance difference between the electromagnetic coils in the electric rear axle (ERAD). The electric rear axle drive control module (IEM) compares the coils while driving in gear D or R and sets the code when the difference becomes too large. The fault lies in the electric rear axle. Electric propulsion is then not possible.
Possible causes
- The electric rear axle (ERAD) is damaged
- Internal fault in the electric rear axle (ERAD)
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the electric rear axle, since the fault lies in it. High voltage systems may only be handled by qualified personnel
- 2Do not carry out any work on the electric rear axle or its wiring yourself
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the IEM fault codes after a drive in gear D or R and see whether the code is set again
- 4After the repair, check that the code is not stored again and that electric propulsion works
Symptoms you may notice4
- Warning window with a warning symbol and text message
- PURE: the drive mode disengages automatically or is unavailable
- AWD: the drive mode disengages automatically or is unavailable
- HYBRID: the combustion engine is active all the time or too often
What the fault can affect2
- Electric propulsion is not possible
- Brake energy regeneration from the electric rear axle is not possible
