Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named cooling system, it applies when the cooling system signal from the engine control module (ECM) is missing or too low. It is set with the ignition on once the test has started. The causes are a damaged coolant pump, a damaged coolant temperature sensor, or a software fault in the ECM or in the IEM. Electric propulsion is then not possible.
Possible causes
- Damaged coolant pump
- Damaged coolant temperature sensor
- Software fault in the engine control module (ECM)
- Software fault in the electric rear axle drive control module (IEM)
What you can do
- 1Check the coolant level and look for leaks in the cooling system
- 2Have a workshop read the fault codes in the engine control module (ECM) and check the coolant pump and the temperature sensor. High voltage systems may only be handled by qualified personnel
- 3Have a workshop download new software to the ECM and to the IEM if needed. Do not carry out any work on the high voltage system yourself
- 4After the repair, read out the fault codes with the ignition on and check that the code is not stored again
Symptoms you may notice4
- Text window and warning symbol with a text message
- Drive mode PURE disengages automatically or is unavailable
- Drive mode AWD disengages automatically or is unavailable
- Drive mode HYBRID: the combustion engine runs all the time or too often
What the fault can affect2
- Electric propulsion is not possible
- Brake energy regeneration from the electric rear axle is not possible
