Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The electric rear axle drive module (IEM) is not getting at least one signal from the brake control module (BCM). The fault is only checked once the test has started at ignition on, and the code is stored when the conditions are met.
Possible causes
- Oxidation, contact resistance or loose contacts at the terminals to Sensor CAN
- Damaged cables on Sensor CAN
- Software error in the electric rear axle drive module (IEM)
- Software fault in the BCM (brake module)
- Internal fault inside the ISC voltage converter
What you can do
- 1Read out and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop check that the connectors to Sensor CAN are fully engaged and free from corrosion
- 3Have a workshop check chafed or damaged CAN cables
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check communication with the brake control module and load the latest software to the control modules if needed
- 5The braking system is safety critical; have a workshop check the brake control module and its communication
- 6The high-voltage system may only be handled by a workshop; do not work on it yourself
Symptoms you may notice4
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- PURE drive mode disengages by itself or is not available
- AWD drive mode disengages by itself or is not available
- HYBRID drive mode runs with the combustion engine active all the time or too often
What the fault can affect2
- Electric propulsion is not possible
- Brake energy recovery from the electric rear axle ERAD is not possible
