What does this fault code mean?
The electric rear axle drive module (IEM) receives wheel speed values from the brake control module (BCM) over the CAN bus. Although the code is named sequence counter, it relates to wheel speed from the BCM being faulty or missing. The fault is only checked once the car is driven in gear D or R.
Possible causes
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM)
- Software error in the electric rear axle drive module (IEM)
What you can do
- 1Read out, clear the code and road test in D or R to see whether it returns
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment: check in live data that the wheel speeds follow each other evenly during the road test
- 3Have a workshop check the brake control module (BCM) and whether new software is available for the IEM
- 4The braking system and the electric rear axle are safety critical; do not work on them yourself, have a workshop carry out the checks
Symptoms you may notice4
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- PURE drive mode disengages by itself or is not available
- AWD drive mode disengages by itself or is not available
- HYBRID drive mode runs with the combustion engine active all the time or too often
What the fault can affect2
- Electric propulsion is not possible
- Brake energy regeneration from the electric rear axle ERAD is not possible
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
