1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The high voltage generator control module (IGM) supervises the voltage and current feed to the starter generator ISG. The code is stored when the current in any of the phases feeding the ISG is too high. The code names phase U, but the condition applies to one or more phases. The fault is only checked while the combustion engine is running.
Possible causes
- Oxidation, contact resistance or loose contacts at the connections between the ISG and the ISC
- A short circuit from the high voltage cable to ground
- Break in the high voltage cable
- Wiring between the ISG and the ISC is damaged
- Internal fault inside the ISG starter generator
- Internal fault inside the ISC voltage converter
What you can do
- 1Read out, clear the code and road test with the engine running to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop check the high voltage cable and the wiring between the ISG and the ISC
- 3If nothing is found in the wiring, have a workshop check the starter generator ISG and the ISC voltage converter
- 4The high voltage system may only be handled by a workshop; do not work on it yourself
Symptoms you may notice5
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- Warning about power supply problems from the alternator and charge regulator
- Charging of the high voltage battery while driving is absent, reduced or not working correctly
- High voltage battery is discharged or charges poorly
- HYBRID drive mode: the combustion engine is active all the time or too often
What the fault can affect1
- The high voltage battery cannot be charged by the combustion engine
