Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The high voltage generator control module (IGM) lacks at least one signal from the engine control module (ECM), and the fault concerns communication on both HS CAN and sensor CAN. Although the code is named invalid data, it is the signals that are missing. The fault is only checked once the test has started at ignition on.
Possible causes
- Oxidation, contact resistance or loose contacts at the terminals to HS CAN or sensor CAN
- Damaged cables on HS CAN
- Damaged cables on sensor CAN
- Software fault in the IGM
- Software fault in the engine control module (ECM)
- Internal fault inside the ISC voltage converter
What you can do
- 1Read out, clear the code and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop check that the connectors on HS CAN and sensor CAN are fully engaged and free from corrosion
- 3Have a workshop check the cables on HS CAN and sensor CAN
- 4If a control module has been replaced without new software being loaded, that may be the cause; have a workshop check this
- 5Do not replace the central electronic module (CEM) for a CAN fault unless a workshop has found an internal fault in it
- 6The high voltage system may only be handled by a workshop; do not work on it yourself
Symptoms you may notice5
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- Warning about power supply problems from the alternator and charge regulator
- Charging of the high voltage battery while driving is absent, reduced or not working correctly
- High voltage battery is discharged or charges poorly
- HYBRID drive mode: the combustion engine is active all the time or too often
What the fault can affect1
- The high voltage battery cannot be charged by the combustion engine
