What does this fault code mean?
MS-CAN is the network over which the control modules in the car send information to each other. The code is stored when serious interference on the network blocks CAN communication, and then the infotainment head unit (IHU) cannot be reached.
Possible causes
- A short-circuit between the CAN wires
- A break in one of the CAN wires
- A fault inside the head unit (IHU) itself
- An internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then check whether it comes back
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Gently shake the cable harness and connectors, and lightly pull the connections while you check whether the fault shows up
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault codes in all control modules and see whether any other module also has lost contact with the CAN network
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop trace the CAN network. The CEM should only be replaced if the trace shows it has an internal fault
