Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The head unit (IHU) continuously receives information from the transmission control module (TCM) over CAN and checks that this communication works. The code is stored when communication with the TCM is lost.
Possible causes
- A break in the communication wire
- The communication wire is short-circuited to ground
- The communication wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Poor contact, oxidation or a break in the connections
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and check whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connectors in the CAN network for poor contact, oxidation and loose connections
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM), and if several modules report communication faults, start there
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop trace the communication wires to the transmission control module (TCM) further
