Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The keyless vehicle module (KVM) monitors the link to the remote keyless entry receiver, which picks up the key fob signals and handles the keyless functions. The code is stored when the module registers that the signal is incorrect. Because the receiver no longer responds correctly, the remote control stops working, and both the cabling and the receiver need checking.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Try locking and unlocking the car with the remote control to confirm the fault
- 2Check the power supply and ground wiring between the receiver and the CEM for open circuits and shorts to supply voltage or ground
- 3Reconnect the cables and connectors at the receiver and the CEM and make sure they are seated properly
- 4Switch the ignition on and check again. If the signal wire shows an open circuit or a short, trace that wire
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the communication and replace the module if no other fault is found
Symptoms you may notice1
- The car cannot be operated with the remote control
