Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named unlocking, it concerns the switch in the tailgate open button. The keyless vehicle module (KVM) starts a timer when the switch is activated, and the code is stored if the switch has been activated for too long. The tailgate then cannot be unlocked or opened with the button.
Possible causes
- The switch in the tailgate is faulty
- The tailgate open button has been held pressed for an unusually long time
- The signal wire has a short to ground
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and press the open button to see whether the tailgate opens
- 2Check that the open button has not stuck in the pressed position; if it has, replace it
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the wire between the KVM and the tailgate switch has no open circuit and no connection to ground (the body)
- 4Check the ground wire to the switch and make sure the ground point for the door control module is firmly fixed and free from oxidation
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: press the button and check that the switch value in live data shows activated when the button is pressed
- 6Have a workshop replace the switch if no other fault is found
Symptoms you may notice1
