KVM-0103
VOLVO
KVM-0103 - Exterior left antennas. Signal too low
System
Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The keyless vehicle module (KVM) watches the antennas on the left side of the car once it is driving fast enough. The code is stored when the signal from any of these antennas is too low. Locking, unlocking and central locking may then stop working, and the keyless function becomes weaker.
Possible causes
- The driver circuit feeding the outer left-hand antennas is in contact with ground
- One of the outer left-hand antennas is faulty
- The wire to the outer left-hand antenna is shorted to ground
- The outer left-hand antenna is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2With the ignition off, disconnect the battery negative lead and inspect the wiring to the left-hand rear door handle antennas for damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the left-hand antennas has no open circuit and is not connected to ground (the body)
- 4Make sure the connectors at the antennas and at the KVM are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the antennas and the KVM; the KVM may need replacing if no other fault is found
Symptoms you may notice2
- Keyless function is reduced or absent
- Locking, unlocking and central locking do not work
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
