Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
When the start button is pressed, the keyless vehicle module (KVM) uses antennas in the cabin and the luggage compartment to look for a valid key. The code is stored when the remote key's ID is not valid or the reply is not recognised. The code does not say what type of fault it is, so troubleshooting has to be broad.
Possible causes
- Incorrect reply from the remote key
- The remote receiver is not working
What you can do
- 1Read the codes and deal first with those relating to lost communication with the receiver
- 2Note whether the remote stops working in some places. Strong radio transmitters or mobile phones can, rarely, block the remote key signal
- 3Try several remote keys to see whether the fault follows one particular key
- 4If only one key shows the fault, have a workshop reprogram the keys, with all keys present
- 5Have a workshop confirm that the newest software is loaded in the CEM and in the KVM
Symptoms you may notice2
- Keyless functions do not work at all or work poorly
- The engine does not start
