VOLVO
KVM-B135631 - Left Rear Door Handle Lock Circuit. FM (Frequency Modulated) / PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) Failures. No signal
System
Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2011–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–)
What does this fault code mean?
Each outer door handle carries a lock sensor and an unlock sensor, which the keyless vehicle module (KVM) monitors. The code is stored when no lock signal, or a wrong one, comes from the handle on the left rear door. Locking, unlocking and central locking from that handle then fail, and the fault appears while the engine runs and the car moves fast enough.
Possible causes
- The signal wire has a short to supply voltage
- The signal wire has a short to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and run the engine to check whether it returns
- 2Check the fuse for the circuit
- 3With the ignition off, check with a multimeter that the common handle-sensor ground wire is not shorted to supply voltage or ground
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires between the left rear handle and the KVM have no open circuit and are not shorted to supply voltage or ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: check the lock sensor in live data and see that the value changes when the lock button on the handle is pressed and released
- 6Have a workshop replace the door handle if the wiring is sound, and the KVM if the fault remains after the replacement
Symptoms you may notice1
- Locking, unlocking and central locking do not work
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
