KVM-E003
VOLVO
KVM-E003 - Incorrect configuration. Faulty configuration
System
Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module checks its configuration ID against the signal that the central electronic module (CEM) transmits on the CAN network. If the IDs do not match, or if communication with the CEM is interrupted, the code is set. The control module then answers diagnostic commands, but normal CAN communication does not work.
Possible causes
- Wrong CAN configuration ID, which happens when a module is meant for another car, for example a used one with different software or hardware
- Break in the CAN cabling that links the module to the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes, clear them and road test the car to see whether the code comes back
- 2Has a used control module been fitted to the car recently? It may then be wrong for this particular car, and that is a possible cause of the code
- 3Inspect the harness running from the module to the CEM for damage, chafing and breaks
- 4If codes are also stored in the central electronic module or in other control modules, start there, since the faults behind this code must be found with the other codes first
- 5Have a workshop read in the correct configuration number and install the newest software in the module
Symptoms you may notice2
- No, or reduced, keyless function
- The remote control cannot be used
