Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
Control modules on the CAN network need the same signal configuration ID to be able to communicate. The central electronic module (CEM) regularly sends out the ID that applies to the car, and the code is set when a module's own ID does not match it. The code gives no further fault type, so troubleshooting has to proceed in stages.
Possible causes
- Wrong configuration ID, which happens when a module is meant for another car, for example a used one with different software or hardware
- Break in the CAN cabling that links the module to the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes, clear them and road test the car to see whether the code comes back
- 2If a control module has been replaced recently, check that it is intended for this particular car; a used module with other software gives the wrong configuration ID
- 3Check that the connectors in the CAN network are fully engaged and free from oxidation, and look for breaks in the wiring leading to the central electronic module (CEM)
- 4If only this control module has the code, have a workshop download new software to it
- 5If codes are stored in several control modules, start troubleshooting with the central electronic module (CEM)
Symptoms you may notice2
- No, or reduced, keyless function
- The remote control cannot be used
What the fault can affect2
- The control module switches itself off (so-called bus-off)
- While the code is set, the control module still responds to diagnostic commands
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
