LPG-0118
VOLVO
LPG-0118 - Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor signal. Signal too high
System
Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS40 (1996–2004), V40 (1996–2004)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The LPG control module takes the engine coolant temperature from the engine control module (ECM) and sets the code when that signal is too high for a while with the engine running. Codes in the engine control module should therefore be read first.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the signal wire
- Incorrect signal sent from the engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the engine control module (ECM) first, since the signal originates there
- 2Start the engine and read the coolant temperature with diagnostic equipment; if it looks normal, the fault has probably been present but is not active at the moment
- 3Check the signal wire for chafing and damage, and use a multimeter to confirm it has no contact with supply voltage
- 4Have a workshop check the engine control module's signal if the codes stored there point to a fault
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not run on gas
