What does this fault code mean?
The parking assistance camera module (PAC) communicates over MS-CAN, the car's network between control modules. The fault is set when communication on the network is disturbed, either by another control module or by the module's own messages interfering with the network. The control module can then switch itself off, known as bus-off, and it stays off until the power supply is broken.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the connectors on the CAN wires are firmly seated
- 2Read out and erase the fault code, then test drive and see whether it comes back
- 3Have a workshop measure the MS-CAN wires for open circuits and short circuits, and look for a control module that disturbs the network
- 4The central electronic module (CEM) is not replaced for a CAN fault unless the workshop finds an internal fault in it
Symptoms you may notice1
- Front and rear park assist does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The control module switches itself off, known as bus-off
- It stays off until its power supply is broken, and at the next power-up it tries to communicate again
