Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
8 modelsS60 (2011–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking assistance camera module (PAC) talks to the steering wheel angle sensor (SAS) non-stop. The fault is set when communication with the SAS is disturbed or missing. The fault can come from a missing or broken voltage supply or earth to the SAS, contact resistance, broken or short-circuited CAN wires, or a SAS that does not suit the car, for example a used control module with different software.
Possible causes
- No power reaches the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS)
- Open circuit in the ground wire to the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS)
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit or short circuit in the CAN wires
- The steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) does not match this car, such as a second-hand unit with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the earth points are firmly fixed and not oxidised
- 2Erase the fault code and test drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 3Has the steering wheel angle sensor or the steering wheel module been replaced recently? Tell the workshop, since it then needs the right software
- 4Have a workshop check the power supply, the earth and the CAN wires to the steering wheel angle sensor. Steering is safety-critical, so do not work on it yourself
Symptoms you may notice1
- The parking camera does not work
