What does this fault code mean?
The parking assistance module (PAM) has registered that the DC voltage in the signal wire to the inner right rear sensor is too low or missing. The fault may be due to a poorly seated sensor, oxidation in the connections, a short to ground or a break in the signal or supply wire.
Possible causes
- The parking sensor is poorly connected
- The signal wire is short-circuited to ground
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Short-circuit in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal or supply wire
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then test drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2If B1B5711 or B1B5811 is also stored, start the fault tracing there: they point to a short to ground in the sensor supply wire
- 3Check that the connector to the inner right rear sensor is firmly seated and clean, and that the other connectors along the wire are intact
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal and supply wires to the sensor have no contact with ground and no break
- 5Once the fault is corrected, clear the code and function test the parking assistance
Symptoms you may notice3
- Front or rear parking assistance does not work
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
