What does this fault code mean?
The parking assistance module (PAM) has registered faulty messages on the high-speed CAN network, and the module has switched itself off from the network (bus-off). The cause is either contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors, or an open circuit in one or both CAN wires in part of the network.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in one or both CAN wires in part of the network
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then test drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the connectors on the CAN wires to the parking assistance module are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 3Check whether codes are stored in the other control modules, since a fault on the CAN network can show up in several modules at once
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check whether communication codes are stored in the central electronic module (CEM)
- 5Have a workshop measure the resistance in the HS-CAN network and look for breaks in the wires
- 6Have a workshop find the control module that communicates incorrectly, since it is not always the one that stored the code
Symptoms you may notice3
- Front or rear parking assistance does not work
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Text message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- The parking assistance module switches itself off from the CAN network and stays off until the power supply is interrupted
- When the car is restarted, the control module tries to communicate again
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
