System
Parking Assistance Module (PAM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
6 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking assistance module's internal software does not match the car, so its configuration ID differs from the one the central electronic module (CEM) sends out on the CAN network. The fault may be caused by a used control module having been fitted, or by a break in the CAN wires between the parking assistance module and the CEM.
Possible causes
- Incorrect configuration ID, since the unit was never meant for this car, for instance a second-hand unit with other software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN wires between the parking assistance module and the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then test drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Consider whether the parking assistance module is a used control module that has been fitted to the car
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, check whether communication codes are stored in the central electronic module (CEM); if they are, start the fault tracing there
- 4Check that the connectors on the CAN wires to the parking assistance module are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 5Have a workshop load the parking assistance module with the software that is right for the car, as this is a programming job
- 6If the code comes back, have a workshop check the CAN wires between the parking assistance module and the CEM
Symptoms you may notice3
- The parking assistance system does not work
- The information lamp is lit
- Message in the text display
What the fault can affect2
- The parking assistance module switches itself off from the CAN network (bus-off)
- While the code is stored, the module responds to diagnostic commands, but the normal CAN communication does not work
