Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the left brake caliper directly and checks the braking force in it. The fault code is stored when the braking force is insufficient for a longer period, and the caliper then cannot reach the position it has been commanded to. The fault can be caused by poor contact or an open circuit in the connections, too low battery voltage, or a mechanical fault in the caliper.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Battery voltage too low
- Mechanical fault in the left brake caliper
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the battery is not weak, since too low a voltage can cause the fault
- 3Check that the connectors to the left brake caliper are firmly fitted and not corroded
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the left brake caliper is not broken
- 5If the fault returns after these checks, have a workshop examine the left brake caliper and replace it if needed
- 6The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice4
- The parking brake warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Red warning symbol and text message in the display
- Electric parking brake works with reduced function
