What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the right brake caliper through an output and checks the voltage level there. The code concerns the motor in the caliper and is stored when an incorrect signal remains for a longer time. It can be caused by the signal wire being shorted to ground or by a damaged caliper.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
- Damaged brake caliper
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2With a multimeter, check that the signal wire to the right brake caliper is not touching ground (the body)
- 3Look along the wiring to the right brake caliper for chafed spots where it may have touched the body
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop check the caliper and its wiring and replace them if needed
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice3
- Information lamp is on
- Message in the text display
- Electric parking brake works with reduced function
