Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the right brake caliper through an output and checks the voltage there. The fault code is stored when the voltage on the output is close to battery voltage while the output is not active, and the incorrect signal remains for a longer time. It can be caused by the signal wire being shorted to battery voltage or by a damaged caliper.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to voltage
- Damaged brake caliper
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2Use a multimeter to measure whether the wire to the right brake caliper carries battery voltage when the parking brake is not in use
- 3Look along the wiring to the right brake caliper for chafing or damage to the insulation
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the signal wire and the right brake caliper and replace them if needed
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice3
- Information lamp is on
- Message in the text display
- Electric parking brake works with reduced function
