Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the right brake caliper through an output and checks the output's driver stage. The fault code is stored when the control module's internal components do not work, and The causes are a short circuit in the motor circuit, a damaged control module, or a broken earth wire between the control module and the ground point.
Possible causes
- Short circuit in the motor circuit
- Damaged Park Brake Module (PBM)
- Broken earth wire between the control module and the ground point
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the earth connection to the parking brake module is firmly fitted and not corroded
- 3Look at the connectors in the motor circuit to the right brake caliper and make sure none is loose or burnt
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop check the motor circuit and replace the Park Brake Module (PBM) if needed
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
