Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the right brake caliper through an output and checks the power consumption there. The fault code is stored when the current does not reach the correct level when the function is activated and an incorrect signal remains for a longer time. The causes are an open circuit in the signal wire or a damaged control module.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged Park Brake Module (PBM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2At the connectors, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire carries through to the right brake caliper
- 3Check that the connectors in the signal wire are firmly fitted and not corroded
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the current consumption of the right and left brake calipers when the parking brake is applied
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the signal wire and the Park Brake Module (PBM)
- 6The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
