Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the right brake caliper through an output and checks the power consumption there. The fault code is stored when the motor current is unreasonably high as the motor releases the parking brake, or when an incorrect signal remains for a longer time. The cause may be a damaged brake caliper, a motor in the caliper that has jammed, or short circuits in the signal wires.
Possible causes
- Damaged brake caliper
- The motor in the caliper has jammed
- Short circuits in the signal wires
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake; note whether the fault shows when the parking brake is released
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: release the parking brake and read the motor current for the right brake caliper in live data
- 3Look along the wiring to the right brake caliper for chafing or damaged insulation
- 4If the caliper has jammed or the fault returns, have a workshop check and replace the right brake caliper
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice4
- The parking brake warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Red warning symbol and text message in the display
- Electric parking brake works with reduced function
