Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the left brake caliper through an output and checks the voltage level there. The fault code is stored when an incorrect signal remains for longer than a set time. The fault can be caused by the signal wire being shorted to ground or by a damaged caliper.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
- Damaged left brake caliper
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2Go along the wiring to the left brake caliper and look for chafed spots or pinched wires
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire to the left brake caliper is not connected to earth (the body)
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop check the left brake caliper and its wiring
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice3
- Information lamp is on
- Message in the text display
- Electric parking brake works with reduced function
