Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) supplies the left brake caliper through an output and checks the voltage level there. The fault code is stored when an incorrect signal remains for longer than a set time, and The fault can be caused by a damaged fuse, poor contact or an open circuit in the connections, or a damaged control module.
Possible causes
- Damaged fuse
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Damaged Park Brake Module (PBM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2If a fuse for the parking brake has blown, first check that the wire is not shorted before fitting a new fuse
- 3Check the connections to the left brake caliper for looseness and oxidation
- 4With a multimeter, check that the wire to the left brake caliper has continuous contact
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the Park Brake Module (PBM) and replace it if needed
- 6The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
