Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) continuously receives brake system information from the brake control module (BCM) and from the central electronic module (CEM) over the CAN bus. The fault code is stored when the information from either of them has a lower quality than the parking brake module accepts for a longer time, or when communication with the CEM stops. The fault therefore lies in the information from another control module.
Possible causes
- Fault in the control module that sends the information, for example the brake control module (BCM) or the CEM
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: check whether the brake control module (BCM) and the CEM also have fault codes, since faults often show up in several control modules
- 3Check that the connectors at the parking brake control module are firmly fitted and not corroded
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop troubleshoot the control module that sends the faulty information
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice3
- Information lamp is on
- Message in the text display
- Electric parking brake works with reduced function
