Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) continuously receives information from the forward sensing module (FSM) over the CAN bus. The fault code is stored when communication with the FSM stops, or when an incorrect signal remains for a longer time. The fault can lie in the FSM or in the wiring between the control modules on the CAN network.
Possible causes
- Fault in the forward sensing module (FSM)
- Break or short circuit on one or both CAN wires
- Incorrect signal configuration in the control module, for example if a module has been replaced without new software being loaded
What you can do
- 1If the fault does not return, clear the fault code and check that it is not set again
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: if several control modules have communication faults, start with the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM)
- 3Look along the wiring to the forward sensing module (FSM) for chafing and damage
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop troubleshoot the forward sensing module (FSM) and check that the correct software is in it
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice1
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
