The parking brake module (PBM) continuously receives information from the brake control module (BCM) over the CAN bus. The fault code is stored when communication with the BCM stops, or when the information from the BCM has a lower quality than the parking brake module accepts.
Possible causes
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM), which should send the information
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car using the parking brake to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: check whether the brake control module (BCM) also has fault codes
- 3Check the connectors at the parking brake control module for looseness, oxidation and damage
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop troubleshoot the brake control module (BCM) and the communication between the control modules
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice3
- Information lamp is on
- Message in the text display
