What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) checks its own configuration ID against the signal setup that the central electronic module (CEM) broadcasts on the CAN bus. All control modules on the bus must have the same ID to be able to communicate. The fault code is stored when the parking brake module's ID differs from the one the CEM sends, and
Possible causes
- Incorrect configuration ID, for example a used control module that is not intended for this particular car
What you can do
- 1Has the control module been replaced recently, for example with a used one? It may be intended for another car or lack the correct software; have a workshop check this
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault codes in the CEM and see whether it also has communication fault codes
- 3If the fault returns, have a workshop program the parking brake control module with the correct and latest software
- 4If fault code PBM-U014000 is also present, the fault most likely lies in the communication with the CEM, and the parking brake control module should then not be replaced
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice3
- Information lamp is on
- Message in the text display
- Electric parking brake does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The parking brake control module works with limited function in emergency mode
- The control module still responds to diagnostic commands while the fault code is stored
