Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake module (PBM) checks the signal from the parking brake switch. The fault code is stored when the signal from the switch is incorrect for a longer time. The cause may be a damaged switch, poor contact or a break in the signal wires.
Possible causes
- Damaged parking brake switch
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose connection
- Break in the signal wires
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it, then apply and release the parking brake to see whether the fault returns
- 2Check that the connectors to the parking brake switch are firmly fitted and not corroded
- 3Look along the wiring to the switch for chafing or damage
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires to the switch have no break
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop replace the parking brake switch
- 6The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice3
- The parking brake warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Electric parking brake works with reduced function
