Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The parking brake control module (PBM) compares its own voltage with the voltage in the central electronic module (CEM), which is sent over the CAN network. The fault code is stored when the voltage is too low in that comparison. The cause may be a weak battery, a supply wire shorted to ground, or a damaged fuse.
Possible causes
- Weak battery
- Supply wire shorted to earth
- Damaged fuse
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is in good condition and that its terminals are firmly fitted
- 2Look at the fuse for the parking brake and make sure it is intact
- 3With a multimeter, check that the supply wire to the parking brake is not touching ground (the body)
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop troubleshoot the voltage supply to the parking brake control module
- 5The parking brake is a safety function: have a workshop check it if it does not work as it should
Symptoms you may notice1
- Electric parking brake does not work
