VOLVO
PDM-0040 - Outside temperature sensor. Signal too high
System
Passenger Door Module (PDM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The PDM control module has registered that the signal from the outside temperature sensor is too high. The sensor is in the right door mirror, whether the car is left- or right-hand drive, and the fault concerns the signal from it. The outside temperature reading in the car does not work while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Signal wire from the outside temperature sensor short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, check whether the outside temperature is shown and whether the value seems plausible
- 2Start with the right door mirror, where the sensor is located, and look for damage and loose or corroded connectors
- 3Check that the connector at the mirror and at the control module is secure and free from oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with supply voltage. If a fault is found, replace the wire
- 5If no fault is found in the wire, replace the outside temperature sensor and check that the reading appears afterwards
Symptoms you may notice1
- Outside temperature display does not work
