PDM-B12C211 - Approach lighting. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Passenger Door Module (PDM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2011–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–)
What does this fault code mean?
The PDM feeds the approach lighting in the exterior mirror, the lamp that lights up the area around the car. The module has detected that the current on the output is too high, which points to the supply cable being shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Supply cable to the lamp is shorted to ground
- Moisture and/or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and drive the car to see whether the approach lighting works and whether the code comes back
- 2Check the fuses in the fuse box; if a fuse has blown, look for a short to ground in the wire before a new fuse is fitted
- 3Check the connectors at the lamp in the mirror and at the door module for moisture, oxidation and loose contact
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the lamp has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, activate the approach lighting and check that the lamp lights
- 6If the wire is intact but the code comes back: have a workshop check the lamp and the door module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The approach lighting in the mirrors does not work
