PDM-B12C311 - Rear Window Position Sensor Power Supply. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Passenger Door Module (PDM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2011–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–)
What does this fault code mean?
The Hall sensors in the rear door window lifts measure how fast each window motor rotates, and this is how the control module determines the window position. If one sensor is faulty, automatic up and down operation does not work for that window. The module has registered a reading below the expected level on the signal line, which points to the sensor supply being shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Supply cable to the sensor is shorted to ground
- Moisture and/or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and test with the window switches to see whether the code comes back
- 2Check the fuses for the power windows in the fuse box; if a fuse has blown, look for a short to ground before a new fuse is fitted
- 3Check the connectors at the window lift and the rear door control module for moisture, oxidation and loose contact
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the sensor has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, read the window position in live data while you run the window up and down and check that the value changes smoothly
- 6If the code comes back despite these checks: have a workshop check the window lift and the control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- Electrical operated window does not work, works with reduced function or works incorrectly
What the fault can affect1
- The control module blocks automatic window operation
