PDM-E003
VOLVO
PDM-E003 - Configuration fault. Faulty configuration
System
Passenger Door Module (PDM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The door module compares its own configuration with the one the central electronic module (CEM) sends out on the CAN network. If the configurations do not match, or communication with the CEM is broken, the code is set. The fault usually appears when a module does not belong to the car, for example a used module taken from another vehicle.
Possible causes
- Incorrect CAN configuration ID, such as a second-hand module built for another car
- Open circuit in the CAN lines linking the module to the CEM
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then run a test drive to see whether it comes back
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, read the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, as they can show whether communication with the door module is broken
- 3Check that the door module is intended for this particular car, especially if it has been replaced with a used one
- 4Disconnect the battery negative terminal and use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires between the door module and the CEM are intact with no open circuit
- 5Have a workshop read the configuration and reprogram it if needed, or download new software to the control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The passenger-side switch panel does not work
- Automatic window closing does not work
- The car cannot be operated with the remote control
What the fault can affect1
- The control module responds to diagnostic commands, but normal CAN communication does not work (“Expulsion mode”)
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
