PDM-U001088 - Medium Speed CAN Communication Bus. Bus Signal / Message Failures. Bus off
System
Passenger Door Module (PDM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS60 (2011–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–)
Show models by year and engine (3)
What does this fault code mean?
The control modules send and receive information over CAN. The module has registered that communication on the CAN network is disturbed by another control module or by its own messages, and that it has therefore shut itself off (bus off). The code is set when the module's CAN communication starts.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals and connections
What you can do
- 1Start the car, let it run for a while, then clear the code and check whether it comes back
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, read the other codes first, as they show which part of the CAN network is affected
- 3Check the fuses in the fuse box and make sure they are intact
- 4Disconnect the battery negative terminal and use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no contact with ground or voltage and are intact with no open circuit
- 5Have a workshop look for the control module that disturbs communication and replace it if it is faulty; do not replace the central electronic module (CEM) before it has been checked
Symptoms you may notice5
- Central locking and door locks do not work or work incorrectly
- Electric windows do not work, work with reduced function or work incorrectly
- Electric mirror adjustment and mirror memory do not work
- Lighting in the doors and mirrors does not work
- Defogging of the mirrors does not work
What the fault can affect3
- The control module shuts itself off (“bus off”)
- The control module stays off until the power supply is cut, and tries to communicate again at the next power-up
- The control module may need to be without power for a long time before it can communicate again
