System
Passenger Door Module (PDM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The door modules (DDM/PDM) continuously receive the information they need from the central electronic module (CEM) and check the communication with it. If the communication stops, the code is set.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable is shorted to ground or voltage
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Open circuit or short circuit in the CAN wiring
- The door module is not intended for the car, for example a used control module with different software
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then check after a test drive whether it is set again
- 2Check the fuses in the fuse box and make sure they are intact
- 3Check the connectors at the door module for loose, oxidised or corroded contacts
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the CEM codes first; codes for lost communication in several modules point to a common CAN fault
- 5Have a workshop measure and trace the CAN wiring, and replace a control module only if the tracing shows that it is faulty
Symptoms you may notice5
- Central locking and door locks do not work or work incorrectly
- Electric windows do not work, work with reduced function or work incorrectly
- Mirror functions do not work, such as adjustment, memory and folding
- Lighting in the doors and mirrors does not work
- Warning lights and chimes come on or behave abnormally
