The driver or passenger door module (DDM/PDM) controls the lighting in the switches on the control panels. The fault is stored when the current on the output is too high, which can be caused by the power supply wiring shorting to ground.
Possible causes
- Power supply wiring short-circuited to ground
- Moisture and/or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; see the owner's manual for where they are
- 3Use the buttons or a road test to check whether the switch lighting comes on and goes off as it should
- 4Check that the connectors to the control panel are dry, clean and secure
- 5Check the wiring to the control panel for chafing or pinching, and use a multimeter to check that it has no contact with ground (the body)
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the switch indication and see whether the light comes on; if it does not, have a workshop check the control module
