What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning it is sporadic, and applies to cars with the EU/OS version. The phone module (PHM) registers that the signal to the hands-free speaker is short-circuited to ground. The hands-free mode then does not work, and only the handset can be used.
Possible causes
- The wiring between the hands-free speaker and the phone module is short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Switch the ignition off and check the connector to the hands-free speaker, which is located under the driver's seat: check that it is secure and clean
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the hands-free speaker has no contact with ground (the body)
- 4Look for chafing or pinching along the wiring to the hands-free speaker
- 5If you find no fault in the wiring, you can try replacing the hands-free speaker; otherwise have a workshop fault-trace it
Symptoms you may notice2
- Hands-free mode does not work
- A message in the text display, on cars with Volvo On Call
