What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning sporadic, and applies to cars with the EU/OS version. The phone module (PHM) detects that the hands-free microphone signal has contact with supply voltage, and hands-free mode then does not work.
Possible causes
- The wiring to the hands-free microphone has a short to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2With the ignition off, check the connectors where the hands-free microphone plugs in; they should be secure
- 3Connector position depends on build date: before 27 August 2001 they are in the left A-pillar and the roof, later in the right A-pillar
- 4Look for chafing or pinching on the wire from the hands-free microphone, since damaged wiring can touch a live supply
- 5If you find no fault in the wire, you can try replacing the hands-free microphone
