What does this fault code mean?
The carphone control module (PHM) monitors the handset signal, meaning the cradle switch, and the code is set when that signal has an unexpected value. This comes from an open circuit in the cradle signal wire or the wire being short-circuited to supply voltage. Only hands-free works then.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the cradle signal wire between the handset and the control module
- The cradle signal wire between the handset and the control module is short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code before clearing it, so the workshop can see it
- 2Check that the handset connector is firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cradle signal wire has no open circuit, once the connector is checked
- 4If no open circuit is found, have a workshop check that the wire is not short-circuited to supply voltage
Symptoms you may notice3
- The other party cannot be heard or cannot hear through the privacy handset
- The handset does not work for individual calls
- A text message appears together with a warning symbol
What the fault can affect1
