What does this fault code mean?
The telephone module (PHM) monitors the signal coming from the handset, meaning the cradle switch that senses when the handset sits in its holder. The fault is stored when the handset reading is too low, which is caused by the wire between the handset and the control module being short-circuited to ground. Then only hands-free works.
Possible causes
- The cradle signal wire between the handset and the control module is short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the cover of the fuse box
- 2Check that the connector on the handset and in the car is fully engaged, and that the handset cable is not chafed or pinched
- 3With a multimeter you can check that the wire between the handset and the control module has no contact with ground (the body)
- 4Clear the code and test the handset again. If the fault returns, the wire needs checking by a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- The handset does not work
- The other party cannot hear you, or cannot be heard, when the call is made on the handset
